Cancer Sucks!

I know it’s not really traditional for a business’s blog to share pretty personal information, but I’m going to.

I already shared that for the month of October 25% of all sales at Kawaii McHaven will go to the Colon Cancer Alliance. Typically I donate 15% of all sales to a charity/cause, but this one is extremely close to my heart.

My aunt has colon cancer and, let me tell you, she is one heck of a warrior! She is embracing life and is not taking any moment…any second for granted. I am so proud of who she is and I’m in awe of her amazing strength.

Exactly one year ago today – October 14, 2016 – one of the most important men in my life passed away. My 2nd father…my grandpa. In September of last year he was admitted into the hospital due to severe abdominal pain. They ran tests and performed a colonoscopy and it turned out that he had colon cancer. To make a long story short, he had surgery and he then deteriorated very rapidly. He was never discharged from the hospital until right at the very end when he was transferred to Hope Hospice. And, as I said, on October 14th he passed away. They estimate that he had colon cancer for at least ten years. He had never had a colonoscopy before the one they used to diagnose him.

Now that I’ve shared that personal info, I’m going to share some extremely important information. The CDC recommends that adults aged 50-74 have a colonoscopy every 10 years. Those over age 74 can basically decide if they want to continue having them or not. The timeline and frequency change if you have any of the risk factors the CDC lists (click here for list).

Please don’t put off having a colonoscopy if your doctor is or has recommended it. It can literally save your life.

And, if you’re able and feel led to do so, please make a donation to the Colon Cancer Alliance.

More About Kawaii McHaven

Kawaii McHaven is not an overly large store, but what it lacks in size it makes up for it in kawaii awesomeness. 🙂

Currently the majority of stock is sticker sheets, but I am pleased to also offer “grab bags”, too. Some of them only have memo sheets, some include letter sets and some include sticker flakes. Soon I will be offering some that have deco tape samples, pens and more! I do have more specialized items that I will be adding to the store’s stock, too. This includes plushies, squishies, cabs, and more.

There are 2 things I would like to mention regarding sales made at Kawaii McHaven:

  1. I ALWAYS include an extra with your purchase. This is my way of saying, “Thank you for being an awesome customer!”
  2. 15% of all sales go to charity. Every month I choose a new charity/cause to support and on the last day of the month I send the donation. To see who is being supported for the current month, either check out the store’s front page or the Charity Page in this blog. If you have any suggestions of who to support, feel free to either contact me or submit a comment on the Charity Page.

I hope that helps shed some more light on Kawaii McHaven. As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to comment! 🙂

Welcome to the blog for Kawaii McHaven! Kawaii McHaven is a store located on Etsy that offers, of course, kawaii products. Prices are very reasonable and the cute factor is almost too high!

This blog isn’t just to share things about the store, but also a lot of different things that pertain to the world of kawaii. Yes, gaining business is always nice, but exploring this unique culture is also fun!

If you ever have input to share, please feel free to comment or to send me an email via the contact me link on the right-hand side of the page. 🙂

I hope you enjoy the blog! Again, welcome and stay kawaii!
