May, 2017’s Birchbox Review

It’s been so, so long since I last wrote and my last entry was a pretty deep one. I think it’s now time to focus mostly on subscriptions and things of that sort as I’m officially and utterly addicted to monthly subscription boxes. I know that reviews and unboxings are a dime a dozen, but still, I want my go at it – what better way to share my addiction AND my big mouth with everyone out there??

_____________________

This is my very first box with Birchbox and I chose to go with The Curated Box instead of being completely surprised. To be honest, I don’t know what I was thinking because now I’m going to be putting 3 items up for Swap since I won’t be using them. Oh well. I must have gotten way over-excited, lol.

Here’s the info card sharing about each item that I received:

Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle

The great things about this is that it’s paraben- and sulfate-free and it’s supposed to protect against UV rays. I’m not going to use this, though, because right now my hair is about 5 zillion inches long. I have almost immediate plans to get it chopped off, but right now I always wear it up and so this product is kind of pointless. I could use it after my haircut, but I’d rather swap for something else.

Coastal Scents Blush & Bronzer Palette

Blush and bronzer…ugh. I am very, very pale with extreme red undertones…or perhaps you could say “overtones”. (Eczema? Rosacea??) Blush is an absolute no way with my skin, as is bronzer. I so wish I could use bronzer, but it just doesn’t work. 😦 These are very pretty colors, though.(According to Birchbox’s picture – I didn’t open it since I’m swapping it.)

COOLA SPF 30 Organic Makeup Setting Spray

A matte-finish setting spray with built-in SPF?? Count me the heck in!!

Vasanti BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator

I’m iffy about this. I want to try it because it says it will combat redness, but it also says that it’s a “powerful exfoliator”. Not only am I cursed with a red face, but I’m also cursed with sensitive skin. It contains aloe vera, coconut, vitamin B AND vitamin E, though, so *maybe* that will help combat the harshness?? Oh, what the heck…I’m going to try it and see what happens. It’s Friday so I have 2 days to recuperate if it butchers me, lol.

Vita Liberata Fabulous Self-Tanning Gradual Lotion

According to Birchbox, this formula is tint- and scent-free (FYI for those with fragrance allergies!!). It contains shea butter and extracts from lychee, melon and ginko biloba leaf and is paraben-, sulfate- and phthalates-free. Pretty awesome stuff!! (For someone who isn’t so pale she glows in the dark…)

**FREE GIFT – Pixi by Petra MultiBalm in Wild Rose**

I received this for free for subscribing. This “MultiBalm” is for your lips AND cheeks. It contains shea butter, aloe vera and rosehip oil. I really, really like this color. I’d say it’s sort of a “rose-ish” mauve color (technical name there). Very flattering for my skin tone!

So, all in all, I’m okay with the box. Because of my free item I ended up getting to keep 3 items total instead of just 2. I’m not going to complain, though, because it’s only $10 a month, I get to keep 3 items and I’ll swap for 3 others.

Specials and Prices

There are two subscription options:

-Monthly – $10/month (cancel anytime)

-Yearly – $110/year (use code BESTYEAR99 and it’s only $99)

Right now they have another free gift offer when you sign up for a subscription: join now and receive a free M.A.C. glossy lip pencil in the shade Look Lively. Use code IWANTUMAC at checkout.

Check ’em out for yourself if you’re not already a subscriber!

July/August, 2015 Kawaii Box Review

Subscription Queen

This is probably going to end up being a long and epic (at least in my own mind) post.  Hopefully you’ll stay with me until the end AND get as excited about kawaii and Kawaii Box as I am.  If you DO get super excited about any of the products listed in this post, you can check them out at Blippo and buy what you like.  If you use the code KAWAIILOVE, you’ll receive a 10% discount from all products at the shop.  The coupon also says you’ll receive free shipping worldwide, but I haven’t tested it out yet.  Anyway, moving on to the awesomeness.

I’m going to post pictures and descriptions first and then, at the end, I’ll go over what I think about everything.  I know my opinion is so HIGHLY coveted that you’ll all be anticipating it breathlessly.  🙂

(I’m listing the actual items in alphabetical order.)

The box when it arrived and after I fought with the tape on it.

I figure you can read it all too. Exciting stuff!!

There's assorted sizes of sticky notes in here and every single one is ADORABLE. (How could Rilakkuma be otherwise, though?) You can use them in journals, day timers, on notes for school, as reminders, etc. The sky is the limit!

A little wooden coaster that looks like a piece of toast with a face. Definitely kawaii!

Kawaii Toast Coaster:  A little wooden coaster that looks like a piece of toast with a face. Definitely kawaii!

That’s everything!!  I think my two most favorite items are the Rilakkuma Notes set and the Alpaca Keychain.  I absolutely adore both Rilakkuma and alpacas so these are very dear to my heart.  *sighs contentedly*

My least favorite items are the bracelet and the toast coaster.  The bracelet kind of sucks because it’s so tiny.  I’m sending it to my best friend’s little girl, though, so at least it won’t be wasted.  The toast coaster isn’t my favorite for only one reason — it’s wood.  It seems to me that it would get ruined very quickly.  I decided I’m going to try and decorate it (or ruin it – with my luck) with the glitter glue set…or with whipple and cabochons.  We shall see.

This is my most favorite Kawaii Box so far and my third up until now.  That’s not a lot to go on, but I think they’re getting better and better…at least out of these three.  I hope they keep adding something with alpacas in the boxes each month!!

I highly recommend Kawaii Box if you’re into kawaii and cutesy stuff.  They’re only $18.90 per month with FREE worldwide shipping.  That’s an awesome deal.  And, as I said before, if you fall in love with any of your items and want more, you can just head over to Blippo and buy one or two or fifty. 🙂

Thanks so much if you’ve read this far — you deserve an award and a huge round of applause!  As always, stay kawaii!

Stay Kawaii!!

Stay Kawaii!!

Beauty Joy Box Subscription Unboxing

Subscription Queen

Beauty Joy Box is a pretty hip monthly subscription box that provides 4 beauty products (at least one being full-sized) and 1 jewelry product.  The cost is $15.00 per month with free USA shipping.  Not too shabby!!

This was actually my last month because of my kawaii addiction (there’s too many kawaii things left to buy out there!!), but I wanted to share what was in this month’s box.  Usually they send a cute box with tissue paper and tissue “strings”, but this month’s was just a brown delivery box (disappointing) AND I didn’t receive an info card so I have no idea where or who the jewelry comes from.  But, no worries…let us begin.

Full-Sized Almay Liquid Lip Balm in Apricot Pucker

You’ll be able to see that it is a very subtle color.  It’s not too dark at all and is great for a “light” day look.  I imagine you could add it to a darker lipstick to add some lighter shine.

Almay 1 Almay 2 Almay 3

Cargo Cosmetics Essential Lip Color in Dubai

Again, this is another VERY subtle lip color.  It pretty much blended into my skin/lip tone and didn’t have a “wow” factor at all.

Cargo 1 Cargo 2 Cargo 3

NYX Single Eyeshadow in Bright Green

This is a VERY bright color and not my style.  I have green eyes, but they’re dark and this green just doesn’t suit them or me at all.

NYX 1 NYX 2

Nabi Retractable Waterproof Lip Liner in Hot Red

Again, another BRIGHT color.  If I was wearing a bright red lipstick, this lip liner would be perfect.  It is NOT a good fit for the two lippies that came with this month’s box.  But alas, I have 1500 lip sticks (slight exaggeration), so I’m sure I have something to work it with.  🙂

Silver Arm Cuff

I have no idea who made this or which company it came from since I didn’t receive an information card with this month’s box.  It’s pretty, but I have big arms (oh how I wish I were a size -4) so I tightened it to turn it into a bracelet.

Arm Cuff

So, overall, I give the box…..3 out of 5 stars.  It definitely could have had some more flattering colors and items that went well together.  AND an information card would have been useful as would keeping with the cute boxes.  Perhaps I’m being overly picky, but this is just my opinion so take it as you like.  🙂

I still recommend them, though!!  For $15.00 a month, you can’t beat it.

Subscription Addiction!! Wholly Hemp

Subscription Queen

Wholly Hemp is such a an amazingly good subscription.  According to their Social Mission, “25% of profits go to developmental microloans….to women in developing countries.”  As of RIGHT NOW, they have benefited 1,495 people by providing 299 loans.  That’s huge!

I just received an email today…well yesterday if we’re being technical…that said the following:

” As a member of 1% For The Planet we have vowed to contribute 1% of our sales to environmental causes and organizations. Since you make Wholly Hemp possible, you decide the cause we support each month. This month 1% of our sales will go to help protect 100 miles of the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest.”

I don’t know about you, but I am not aware of a ton of companies that offer monthly subscription boxes and that actually work hard to help not just people in developing countries, but the environment as well.  It makes me proud to be a subscriber!

You want your mind to be even MORE blown away?  The email also said this:

“Our facility is powered by 100% renewable wind power, which means all your favorite products, our website, and even the computer used to write this very email, are all powered by 100% sustainably-sourced wind energy. Last month alone, our use of wind energy saved the equivalent of 600 miles of greenhouse gas emissions.”

Really?  So not only are you just helping the environment and women in developing countries, but you’re actually practicing what you preach??  Mind.  Blown.

Moving forward.  Wholly Hemp offers three different plans for their subscription services.  For $10 a month and free shipping, you receive 2 items per month.  For $20 a month and free shipping, you receive 4 items per month.  And for $40 a month and free shipping, you receive 8 items per month.  How I wish I could afford the $40 a month one.  I love these products.  I currently subscribe to the $10 a month one and the following is what I received for August:

Bodacious Bergamot Soothing Soap — It says on the package:  “Let the sweet and spicy aroma of bergamot take you away to a world of tropical bliss.  With a touch of tangy lemon and sweet orange, this soap smells just like a citrus smoothie (although it probably doesn’t taste the same…we don’t suggest you find out).  To use as shampoo, lather and apply to hair, then rinse.”  It contains saponified hemp-coconut-palm-sunflower oil, bergamot oil- and rosemary extract.  It is NOT tested on animals!

I have EXTREMELY sensitive skin and all of the soaps I have received from Wholly Hemp have helped soothe my poor skin and have helped cut down on itching, bumps, and redness.  And they smell great!

Bodacious Bergamot Soothing Soap

Bodacious Bergamot Soothing Soap

Peppermint Lip Balm – Ingredients:  coconut oil, beeswax, hemp seed oil, sunflower oil, vitamin E, peppermint oil, and rosemary extract.  It’s Lanolin free and NOT tested on animals!

This stuff is AMAZING!  It is so soothing on my lips and feels tingly because of the peppermint.  Someone asked me if it tasted funky because of the hemp seed oil and I can say with a rousing NO WAY DUDE!  This stuff tastes great.

And, of course, one of my most favorite parts….my sticker. 🙂

Awesome Sticker!!

Awesome Sticker!!

So, the moral of this long blog post is to give them a try!!  Go to the links I provided, check out their ingredient list, see for yourself how amazing this company is.  Try it out for just one month!!  I promise — you will be hooked.  🙂

Subscription Addiction – Kawaii Box

Subscription Queen
I received May’s Kawaii Box last week and thought I’d share what I got so that those of you who are intrigued or puzzled by it can get a good look of some of the items one receives.  I will say that it can be a bit confusing because you receive May’s box in June, June’s box in July, July’s box in August, and so on.  They ship from Singapore and it takes about 2 weeks time from shipping to receiving.  They DO use tracking, though, so you can keep track of what’s going on.  The box costs $18.90 USD per month for a monthly subscription, $18.90 USD per month for a 3-month’s subscription, $17.90 USD for a 6 month’s subscription, and $17.30 USD per month for a full year’s subscription.  With the full year you will receive 1 free month as well.  Shipping is FREE worldwide too which is pretty sweet.  Anyway, onwards to the goodies!!

Subscription Addictions – e.l.f. Beauty Bundle & Wholly Hemp

Subscription Queen

I haven’t been on here in ages it would seem.  Oh well….no better time to start all over than now, right?  Other than my last post, this blog is going to focus a lot on the subscriptions I belong to.  Monthly subscription boxes seem to be growing and growing in popularity and, of course, I got in on the action.  In fact, the greatest thing in my life is when the mail truck arrives because I never know what I’m going to receive between the subscription boxes and things I’ve “bought” on Listia.  (More on Listia another time.)

So far I belong to:  Beauty Joy, Boxy Charm, Dollar Shave, e.l.f., ipsy, Kawaii Box, and Wholly Hemp.  Today I’m going to talk about e.l.f.’s beauty bundle and Wholly Hemp’s boxes.

e.l.f. (eyes lips & face) offers Beauty Bundle Gift Plans that range from $59.97-$119.94 (for a half a year or a full year plan) plus shipping costs, Beauty Bundle Subscription Plans that are $19.99 plus shipping costs, and Past Beauty Bundles that are $23.99 plus shipping costs.  It should be noted that the bundles are charged for and arrive bi-monthly.  So, for the subscription plan, it’s a total of $24.94 and you’re guaranteed to receive over $40 worth of products in your bundle.

I just received July’s beauty bundle and this is what was in it…

e.l.f. Essential Shimmering Facial Whip in Lilac Petal retailed at $1.00

e.l.f. Essential Shimmering Facial Whip in Lilac Petal retailed at $1.00

Everything adds up to a retail value of $44.00 which is $19.06 above what I paid.  And I know some people are like, “O.M.G….(because people who are snobby about makeup say it just like that, right?) you use e.l.f.?  You can get it at Target!  It’s not exactly high end you know…”  That doesn’t matter!  e.l.f. is a GREAT brand and their products speak for themselves — you just have to try them out for yourselves.

Next is Wholly Hemp.  With Wholly Hemp you actually get out what you put in.  They have the $10 subscription where you get 2 products each month (this is the one I belong to), the $20 subscription where you get 4 products each month, and the $40 subscription where you get 8 products each month.  They are a great company.  Definitely read about them here even if you’re unsure about subscribing to them.  From their site, “25% of the profit from every item goes directly to individuals in developing countries to help lift them out of poverty. Additionally, 1% of our revenue is contributed toward environmental and sustainability-related causes and organizations.”  How can you beat that?  You can’t — and their products are AWESOME.  This month I received…
